Iran-US War News Today Live Updates: US military warnings to vessels in the Strait of Hormuz were continuing despite President Donald Trump’s claim that the naval blockade affecting shipping “will now be lifted”.
Iran-US War News Today Live Updates: Iran’s IRGC-affiliated Tasnim News Agency reported that US military warnings to vessels in the Strait of Hormuz were continuing despite President Donald Trump’s claim that the naval blockade affecting shipping in the strategic waterway “will now be lifted”.
As US President Donald Trump weighs approving a deal to extend the fragile ceasefire with Iran, tensions remain high across the region despite ongoing negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
Five Americans were reportedly injured after debris from an intercepted Iranian missile struck the US Ali Al Salem base in Kuwait, reported Bloomberg. The report said Kuwait intercepted a Fateh-110 missile, but debris destroyed a $30 million Reaper drone and severely damaged another. Earlier, US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth said Washington was prepared to restart attacks on Iran if diplomacy failed.
Speaking at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, Hegseth said the US was “more than capable” of resuming military action if needed, adding that American stockpiles were sufficient to sustain operations globally. He said Trump remained “patient” and was seeking a “great deal” that would ensure Iran never obtains a nuclear weapon. On Friday, Trump held a two-hour Situation Room meeting at the White House to review a proposal that would extend the current truce by another 60 days, giving negotiators more time to work toward a permanent agreement.
Meanwhile, Mohsen Rezaei, an adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, accused Trump of “betraying diplomacy for the third time” by maintaining a naval blockade on Iran and pushing what Tehran described as excessive demands during negotiations. Key disagreements continue to centre around Iran’s nuclear programme and control of the Strait of Hormuz, which Tehran insists is a sovereign matter. The conflict launched by the US and Israel on February 28 has killed thousands, mainly in Iran and Lebanon, and disrupted global energy markets after Iran effectively closed the strategic waterway.

The US military has stopped another merchant vessel trying to break through the American blockade of Iranian ports, a US official with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press on Saturday.
The Gambia-flagged bulk carrier Lian Star ignored multiple warnings from US forces overnight as it tried to enter an Iranian port, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss military operations.
The ship was disabled by US aircraft in the Gulf of Oman and remains adrift there, the official said, adding that US forces have not boarded it.
With the latest action, US military has stopped six ships trying to breach the blockade. One was allowed to proceed. AP
Israel’s air force and artillery struck areas close to a strategic mountain housing a Crusader-built castle in southern Lebanon Saturday as fighting raged in villages close to the southern city of Nabatieh.Israel’s military issued evacuation warnings for more than a dozen villages in southern Lebanon, a day after Lebanese and Israeli military officials held their first direct talks in decades at the Pentagon. The situation in southern Lebanon was discussed during a meeting Saturday between Lebanon’s president and prime minister who said in a statement later that they will intensify their contacts to make Israel stop demolition and bulldozing of homes and historical sites as well as its evacuation warnings.Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency reported Israeli airstrikes and artillery shelling near the Crusader-built Beaufort castle that is about 15 kilometers (9 miles) from the Israeli border and overlooks wide parts of southern Lebanon. Rockets have been launched into Israeli territory by Lebanon, Al Jazeera reports.
The Israeli army confirmed the activation of air raid sirens in the Western Galilee area.
Oman’s Maritime Security Centre Saturday urged seafarers, fishermen and vessels to exercise “utmost caution” after a floating object suspected to be a naval mine was sighted west of the Inshore Traffic Zone in the Strait of Hormuz within Omani territorial waters, reported Al Arabiya English.
Why it matters
The sighting raises fresh concerns about maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz, through which nearly 20 per cent of global oil supplies pass. Any mine threat or disruption in the narrow waterway could escalate regional tensions further, threaten commercial shipping, and trigger renewed volatility in global energy markets.
Iran’s IRGC-linked Tasnim News Agency said US military warnings to vessels in the Strait of Hormuz were continuing despite President Donald Trump’s claim that the naval blockade affecting shipping “will now be lifted”. Tasnim reported that mariners were still receiving CENTCOM advisories related to Iranian ships even after Trump said stranded vessels could begin “heading home”.
In a Truth Social post, Trump said Iran must guarantee it will never obtain a nuclear weapon, reopen the Strait of Hormuz to unrestricted shipping, and remove remaining naval mines. He also said Iran’s enriched nuclear material would be recovered and destroyed with US and IAEA coordination. Trump later attended a White House Situation Room meeting on a possible ceasefire extension deal with Iran, but no final decision was announced.
Why it matters
The mixed messaging underscores the fragile state of US-Iran negotiations and uncertainty over shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global oil route. Any continued disruption in the waterway could quickly impact global energy markets and escalate regional tensions.
Hezbollah Saturday claimed it carried out an ambush on Israeli soldiers advancing towards Ghandouriyeh in southern Lebanon’s Nabatieh district, saying it detonated explosive devices and fired rockets at the troops, reported Al Jazeera. The Iran-backed group also said it launched rockets at Kiryat Shmona in northern Israel and shot down an Israeli Hermes 450 drone with a surface-to-air missile over Zotar al-Sharqiya. Israeli media reported overnight sirens and rocket interceptions in northern Israel, though the Israeli military has not commented on Hezbollah’s claims.
Why it matters
The reported attack signals continued cross-border escalation between Hezbollah and Israel despite ongoing diplomatic efforts to prevent the wider Iran-Israel conflict from engulfing Lebanon. Any sustained fighting along the Israel-Lebanon border risks opening a second major front in the regional war.
Mohsen Rezaei, an adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, on Saturday accused US President Donald Trump of “betraying diplomacy for the third time” by continuing a naval blockade on Iran and making what Tehran described as excessive demands during negotiations. His remarks come as Washington and Tehran negotiate a possible extension of the fragile 60-day ceasefire aimed at preventing a wider regional conflict.“By continuing the naval blockade and making excessive demands in negotiations, he has once again proven that he is not inclined toward negotiation and is pursuing other objectives,” he wrote in a post on X.

As predicted, the US President is betraying diplomacy for the 3rd time. By continuing naval blockade & making excessive demands in negotiations, he has once again proven he is not serious about talks and pursues other objectives." pic.twitter.com/4axPUhT1H1
Why it matters
The comments follow repeated US demands that Iran guarantee it will never develop nuclear weapons and restore freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil shipping route that Iran has effectively disrupted during the conflict. Tehran, however, has insisted that decisions regarding Hormuz are a matter of national sovereignty and has rejected linking any agreement solely to its nuclear programme.
Five Americans were injured after debris from an intercepted Iranian missile struck the US Ali Al Salem base in Kuwait, Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting reported, citing Bloomberg.
According to the report, Kuwait intercepted a Fateh-110 missile, but debris hit the base, destroying a $30 million Reaper drone and severely damaging another.
In a Congressional Research Service (CRS) report published in July 2024, the air base was described as “the primary airlift hub and gateway for delivering combat power to joint and coalition forces in the U.S. Central Command [AOR].”
Israel has scaled up its offensive against Hezbollah in Lebanon with its army carrying out three bombings in the town of Dibbine in the Marjayoun district, Al Jazeera reported.
Earlier in the day, the Associated Press also reported Israeli airstrikes in Dibbine as its soldiers entered the village. Five people were killed in the villages of Deir Qanoun al Nahr and Abbasiyeh, while a municipal policeman was killed in Ebba.
The war in Lebanon has left 3,200 people dead and over 1 million people displaced, a report said.
The hard-line faction in the Iranian Parliament and a seat on the Supreme National Security Council have openly opposed any concessions to Washington. They have organised rallies, used state media, and issued statements to derail a deal, the New York Times reported.
Citing Iran’s trust deficit with Washington after past US strikes during negotiations, Tehran’s lead negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, wrote on social media that he has “no trust in guarantees or words,” and that “no step will be taken before the other side acts.”

On Monday, President Masoud Pezeshkian reprimanded the officials of state television, controlled by a hard-line director, for amplifying divisions in the country
Ebrahim Azizi, a conservative lawmaker and the head of Parliament’s national security and foreign policy committees, on Friday said, “Trump must know that Iran, as the victor and conqueror of the field, sets the terms.”

The US is ready to restart attacks on Iran if a deal cannot be reached, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said on Saturday, as negotiators from Washington and Tehran worked to bridge major differences blocking an agreement.
"Our ability to recommence if necessary...we are more than capable," Hegseth said in Singapore.
"Our stockpiles ?are ?more than suited for that, both there and around the globe, so we're in a very good place," he added.
Hegseth, speaking at the Shangri-La Dialogue, Asia's ?premier forum ?for defence leaders, militaries and ?diplomats, said the U.S. has not turned its back on the Asia-Pacific region despite being engaged in conflict with Iran.
"We can do two things at one time. We're super-charging our defence industrial base so that we're building 2X, 3X, 4X the munitions very soon to ensure that all of our (operations) plans are properly funded throughout the ?world," he said. (Reuters)
