Three killed in explosion in Jharkhand’s Hazaribag
The administration said the exact circumstances of the incident, which took place in Habibinagar area under Sadar police station limits, will become clear only after the investigation is completed.
At least three people were killed in an explosion in Jharkhand’s Hazaribag on Wednesday evening, police said, adding that the nature of the explosives used is yet to be confirmed.
The deceased have been identified as Saddam, his wife Nanhi Parveen, and one Rasheeda Parveen.
The administration said the exact circumstances of the incident, which took place in Habibinagar area under Sadar police station limits, will become clear only after the investigation is completed.
IG (Operations) Michael Raj said that three people died and, as of now, the police do not have clear information about the nature of the explosives used. He said a team from the State Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), Ranchi, has left for Hazaribag. Raj said that apart from the three fatalities, one person was injured and one domestic animal, possibly a cow, was killed in the blast.
Raj said the blast location is in a civilian area which has nothing to do with Maoists.
The Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of the area said police initially received information about three injured persons and two deaths — Nanhi and Saddam. One critically injured woman, Rasheeda, was rushed to Sadar Hospital for treatment, where she later died.
The SDPO said that according to preliminary inputs from local residents, a few families were clearing bushes when a powerful underground or cylinder-like explosion occurred, triggering panic in the area.
On receiving information, a police team from Bara Bazar rushed to the spot, cordoned off the area, rescued the injured and sent the bodies for post-mortem examination. The officer said that the case is being investigated from all angles and that the area has earlier reported incidents involving explosive materials.
Police have appealed to residents to maintain calm and said additional forces have been deployed in the area as a precautionary measure.
